We typically try to include three items in your monthly boxes, but occasionally we get the opportunity to include two higher priced items instead. This month, we had that opportunity! The special items in this box were lovingly handmade by refugees whose lives directly benefit from your purchase, and we hope you enjoy them.
The first item included in your March box is a beautiful apron with tatreez embroidery from an organization called Darzah. Tatreez embroidery is a Palestinian art and tradition that is usually passed down from generation to generation, mother to daughter. Darzah’s mission is to create economic opportunities for artisans and their families while also celebrating the beautiful Palestinian tradition of tatreez embroidery. The women who participate in this project live in the northern West Bank, an area where poverty rates are some of the highest in the region. This project provides training and job opportunities to some of the women who need it most.
The second premium item in this month’s box is a pair of earrings made by Marwa. Marwa is an Iraqi refugee, a new mom, and one of Anchor of Hope’s talented artisans. Monthly opportunities like this one continue to help Marwa support her family and strengthen her spirit as she raises her son in a foreign country without family to support her. Except for her husband and son, Marwa’s family still lives in the middle of conflict in Iraq, but she continues to work hard and inspire others with her talent and resilience.
We hope you enjoy this special box and thank you again for your contribution!
